Alexander Gavrylyuk brings a solo piano programme about childhood and war to the Grote Zaal of Muziekgebouw. This is his debut in the venue’s Piano series. The repertoire places music associated with innocence alongside the tension of Prokofiev’s Seventh Sonata, written in 1942.
Born in Ukraine in 1984, Gavrylyuk began studying piano at seven and performed his first concerto at nine. He moved to Sydney at thirteen and holds Australian citizenship. His competition successes include the Horowitz, Hamamatsu and Arthur Rubinstein competitions, and he was Wigmore Hall’s artist in residence for 2023–24.
The announced programme comprises Mozart’s Piano Sonata in C major, KV330; Chopin’s Fantasy in F minor; Liszt’s Tarantella from Venezia e Napoli; selections from Tchaikovsky’s Album pour enfants; and Prokofiev’s Piano Sonata No. 7. It is an instrumental recital with a Ukrainian-born performer and an international classical repertoire.
Friday 23 October 2026, 20:15–22:00, Muziekgebouw, Grote Zaal, Piet Heinkade 1, 1019 BR Amsterdam. Standard seats cost €49 or €39 depending on the seating category.
