DocudaysUA Rotterdam, the film club at Ukrainian House, invites viewers to watch Shchedryk against the Russian World and discuss the relationship between culture, identity and Ukraine’s struggle to be heard internationally.
The documentary follows the international tours of Oleksandr Koshyts’s Ukrainian choir in 1918–1924. It explores how music became an instrument of cultural diplomacy for the Ukrainian People’s Republic, alongside attempts to deny or appropriate Ukrainian identity. The screening offers a historical perspective on questions that remain relevant to Ukrainian communities abroad today.
The film is in Ukrainian with English subtitles. A discussion in Ukrainian follows the screening, giving participants an opportunity to reflect on the story together. The event is organised by the DocudaysUA Rotterdam film club at Ukrainian House Rotterdam.
