The Ukrainian investigative documentary “The Evidence” is screened in The Hague, followed by a discussion with the film’s production team and a protagonist.
The film documents the realities of the Russian occupation of Izium and the crimes committed against Ukrainian civilians. It brings together testimonies from women who survived sexual violence and torture, as well as civilians who were unlawfully detained, abused and held in Russian torture facilities. By combining survivors’ testimonies with evidence collected by Ukrainian prosecutors and investigators, the film documents crimes that must not be forgotten and underscores the importance of justice and accountability.
After the screening, audiences can meet the production team and protagonist and take part in a discussion about the experiences documented in the film and the pursuit of justice for Ukraine.
“The Evidence” was produced by Ukrainian journalist Veronika Marchenko in collaboration with the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, with support from the Future for Ukraine Foundation (within the GIDNA project) and Project Expedite Justice.
