Ukraine Chamber Opera brings Giacomo Puccini’s Tosca to the stage with Dutch soprano Francis van Broekhuizen in the title role. She is joined by soloists from Ukrainian opera houses, including tenor Maxime Vorocek as Cavaradossi, and an orchestra of international musicians. This is a Ukrainian-company production of an Italian opera with an international cast.
Set in Rome in 1800, the drama follows a singer caught between love, jealousy and political power. The production highlights the relationships and difficult choices at the heart of the story, with Vissi d’arte and E lucevan le stelle among the announced musical highlights. Ukraine Chamber Opera uses a compact staging that keeps Puccini’s score and the narrative central.
Jeroen Weierink leads the music, while Marc Krone directs. Their work brings the singers and orchestra together around the dramatic tension of the opera. The touring production offers an opportunity to hear Ukrainian operatic soloists alongside a prominent Dutch soprano.
