Dutch chamber choir JIP and the professional Sophia Chamber Choir from Kyiv present Spiegel im Spiegel in Utrecht’s Pieterskerk. The two ensembles have collaborated since 2022 on concerts in the Netherlands, combining support for social and cultural causes in Ukraine with an ongoing artistic exchange between Dutch and Ukrainian musicians and composers.
The first part explores quiet, unaccompanied choral music by composers including Claudio Monteverdi, Johannes Brahms and Arvo Pärt. The singers perform from different positions in the church, making the building’s space part of the listening experience. After the interval, the choirs come together for Martín Palmeri’s Misa a Buenos Aires, also known as Misa Tango, shifting the evening towards the rhythms and energy of tango.
For the second half they are accompanied by the JIP Chamber Orchestra, assembled especially for this project. Martin de Ruiter plays bandoneon and Willem van den Dool plays piano. This is a joint Dutch–Ukrainian programme with instrumental accompaniment, distinct from Sophia’s solo choir concerts elsewhere on the tour. It offers both intimate choral listening and a larger combined performance.
Friday 16 October 2026, 20:15. Public entrance: Pieterskerk, Pieterskerkhof 3, 3512 JR Utrecht. Tickets include an interval drink: €18 standard, €11 reduced for anyone who needs a lower price, or €25 at the donation rate. Book through the organiser’s linked Koortickets page.
