Militantropos — ENFF and reception (7 November)

Militantropos follows ordinary people in Ukraine as Russia’s full-scale invasion changes the rhythms of their lives. Some leave, some lose their homes and loved ones, and others stay to resist or fight. Rather than narrowing this experience to one story, the documentary moves between people and places to observe how war enters everyday gestures, relationships and choices.

Directed by Yelizaveta Smith, Alina Gorlova and Simon Mozgovyi, the 2025 Ukrainian–Austrian–French production explores the emergence of the “militantropos”: a person transformed by a war they did not choose. Its focus on human behaviour makes it a programme for viewers interested in contemporary Ukraine and observational documentary cinema. The screening is part of the 18th Eastern Neighbours Film Festival.

On 7 November the film begins at 16:15 in Zaal 4 at Filmhuis Den Haag, Spui 191. It runs for 111 minutes, with Ukrainian and English dialogue and English subtitles. The ticketing schedule gives 18:12 as the session finish; a reception offered by the Embassy of Austria follows, so allow extra time if you would like to stay. The reception’s end time is not specified.

Standard admission is €12.50; CJP, visitors aged 26 and under or student-card holders pay €10, and Ooievaarspas holders €6.25. Cineville is accepted. Choose the relevant ticket type and bring your pass. The cinema was showing limited availability when checked. Wheelchair spaces in Zaal 4 can be arranged through the box office.
