Block A Gallery at Art The Hague — Ukrainian and Dutch contemporary art

Block A Gallery presents Ukrainian and Dutch contemporary art at Art The Hague, the art fair in the Fokker Terminal. Founded in Kyiv and now working between Kyiv and Amsterdam, the gallery describes itself as a gallery in exile. Its stand brings established Ukrainian artists into conversation with Dutch sculpture and emerging practices, offering visitors and collectors a focused introduction to its programme.

The selection includes Oleh Tistol, associated with the Ukrainian New Wave, whose painting reworks national imagery and cultural symbols; Maxim Mamsikov, who unsettles familiar scenes through hyperrealistic painting and visual distortions; and Maria Kulikovska, represented by her “Migration” series exploring the body, displacement and memory. EtchingRoom1, the duo of Anna Khodkova and Kristina Yarosh, addresses personal and collective memory, urban life and decolonisation through graphic and material experimentation.

Ilse Oelbers’s sculpture “Unbearable Dream”, depicting a girl holding a dying dove, brings questions of care and vulnerability into the presentation. The gallery also announces its first presentation in the Netherlands of Kyiv-based Polina Verbytska, whose sculpture and mixed-media work explores bodily and emotional transformation. Contemporary jewellery by Tasha ORO, Liza Portnova, Inna Lypnyk and Verbytska extends the programme into wearable art.
