The Amsterdam Outrigger Canoe Team is a paddling team based at Watersportvereniging De Schinkel on De Nieuwe Meer, just off the Zuidas in Amsterdam-Zuid, and is led by a Ukrainian captain. The team paddles the OC6 — a six-seat Polynesian outrigger canoe (va'a) steadied by a float, or ama, on one side. Six paddlers move as one crew, switching sides together on the caller's "hut / ho," and it is an endurance and social sport where technique carries the boat rather than raw strength.
A young and welcoming team of Dutch and international paddlers, it puts crews together first and then builds the schedule around them. Getting started is simple: send a quick note with your name, rough availability, and any paddling experience, come for a no-commitment trial session, then join and get grouped into a crew by availability and level. All ages and fitness levels are welcome. Canoe, paddle, and a coach to get you going are all provided, with sessions launching from the De Schinkel harbour and clubhouse.
