Makivka Amsterdam

Makivka is a female vocal ensemble based in Amsterdam dedicated to preserving and sharing the art of Ukrainian traditional polyphony. Their extensive repertoire spans the rich history of Ukrainian folk music, including ancient seasonal carols (Koliadky), spring chants (Vesnianky), harvest songs, and spiritual compositions by Ukrainian composers. More than just a choir, Makivka acts as a cultural bridge, introducing Dutch audiences to the depth of Ukrainian heritage while actively raising funds for humanitarian aid and defense in Ukraine. Founded and led by conductor Olga Svarga, the group performs regularly at festivals, churches, and cultural events throughout the Netherlands, creating an atmospheric experience of authentic Ukrainian sound.
